APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY WATER SUPPLY USING WATER HYACINTH AND BLADYGRASS AS A BIOMASS FILTER ON DIAMOND MINING WATER CEMPAKA DISTRICT BANJARBARU

Abstract
The people who live in the Cempaka District generally face difficulties in obtaining clean water for households, especially  drinking water. This is caused by the contamination of water sources by diamond mining that are physically brownish yellow muddy river and  high  acidity (pH= 5,24), and the chemical conten of iron (Fe) is relatively high as a result of mining activity that required a technologies for water supply. Biomass which selected for this research is water hyacinth ( Eichornia crassipes) which is utilized as an absorbment metal and bladygrass (Imperata cylindrica (L.)Raeuschel) which is harnessed for degrade turbidity. Biomass filter was used in this activity can reduce levels of Fe and TSS levels and raise the pH of the water   diamond mine. Fe content of. 0.417845361 mg/l to 0.094845361 mg/l, TSS level of 130 mg/l to 78 mg/l, nd pH of water from 6.30 to 6.81

Keywords : Biomass filter, water hyacinth, bladygrass, pH, Fe, TSS
