PENGARUH POSTMENOPAUSE TERHADAP KADAR PEROKSIDA SALIVA DI PANTI SOSIAL TRESNA WERDHA BUDI SEJAHTERA BANJARBARU

ABSTRACT

Postmenopausal is the transition phase from productive period to non-productive period. It is caused by low level of estrogen in women. The difference of estrogen level is one of the physiological factorswhich influence saliva peroxidase activity. Enzyme of peroxidase is the promotor of estrogen to form binding of estrogen-peroxidase. Estrogen level compare inversely with estrogen-peroxidase level and diametrically with peroxide level. This research used analytic observational method, and the research subjects were postmenopause in "Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Sejahtera" Banjarbaru, and women whom not menopause yet. They must fulfill criteria of inclution. Examination of total peroxide level was measured by modification FOX 2 method. Data was analysed by independent T-test. It showed that postmenopause have no effect significantly to saliva peroxide level (P>0,05). It means that saliva peroxide level cannot express estrogen level in postmenopause. The conclusion is postmenopause does not effect peroxide saliva level, so the measurement of saliva peroxide level cannot become an alternative method to know estrogen level in postmenopause.
